John Carroll Lynch (born August 1, 1963) is an American character actor and film director. He is known for playing many different kinds of characters in movies and TV shows.
He first became well-known for his role as Norm Gunderson in the movie Fargo (1996). You might also know him from the TV show The Drew Carey Show (1997–2004), where he played Steve Carey. He also appeared in four seasons of American Horror Story (2014–2019), especially as the scary character Twisty the Clown.
Some of his other famous movies include Face/Off (1997), Zodiac (2007), Gran Torino (2008), and The Founder (2016), where he played Mac McDonald, one of the brothers who started McDonald's. In 2017, he also directed his first movie, called Lucky.

Early Life and Education
John Carroll Lynch was born in Boulder, Colorado. He went to Regis Jesuit High School in Denver. Later, he studied theater at The Catholic University of America and earned a special degree in fine arts in 1986.
Acting Career Highlights
Before becoming a movie star, Lynch worked with the Guthrie Theater company for more than eight seasons. He acted in many plays and toured with the group.
His first big movie role was in Grumpy Old Men (1993). He then gained more attention in the movie Fargo (1996), which was directed by the famous Coen brothers.
He has played many interesting characters. For example, he played Arthur Leigh Allen in the movie Zodiac (2007). He also played Mac McDonald, one of the founders of McDonald's, in the movie The Founder (2016).
Lynch has also had a very busy career in television. He was a regular on the TV show The Drew Carey Show. He also appeared in other series like Carnivàle and Body of Proof. Fans of American Horror Story will remember him from several seasons, including his role as Twisty the Clown.
More recently, in 2020, Lynch starred in the ABC crime drama Big Sky. He played two different characters, Rick Legarski and his twin brother, Wolf Legarski. He also acted in the highly praised film The Trial of the Chicago 7, playing activist David Dellinger.
Personal Life
John Carroll Lynch has been married to actress Brenda Wehle since 1997. She also used to be a member of the Guthrie Theatre Company, just like him.
