John Corey was born in Barnstaple, a town in North Devon, England. His family came from Cornwall. He first started acting in London in 1701. Before becoming an actor, he actually studied law! This means he probably wasn't related to another famous actress from an earlier time, Katherine Corey.

From 1701 to 1735, John Corey was a very important actor in London's biggest theaters. He performed at places like the Drury Lane, Haymarket, and Lincoln's Inn Fields Theatre. Later in his career, he also acted at the Goodman's Fields Theatre. Besides acting, John Corey also wrote two plays. These plays were performed at the Lincoln's Inn Fields Theatre when he was starting his career there.
