John F Kennedy Catholic School is a special kind of secondary school. It is located in Hemel Hempstead, England. It's a 'voluntary aided' school, which means it gets some help from the government. It also has strong links to the Roman Catholic faith.

This school is 'comprehensive', meaning it welcomes students of all abilities. It opened in 1967. Today, about 1100 students attend, aged from 11 to 18 years old. The school's motto is Pacem in terris. This Latin phrase means "peace on Earth".

The school also works with other local secondary schools. This helps older students (aged 16 and over) choose from many different subjects. However, this partnership became a bit smaller after 2020.

School Successes and Awards

John F Kennedy Catholic School has achieved many great things! In 1998, it became a Technology College. This means it was recognized for its strong focus on technology.

The school has also received excellent reports from Ofsted. Ofsted is an organization that inspects schools in England. They have described the school as "outstanding". It even appeared on Ofsted's "honours list" for its high quality.

The school has also earned these special awards:

  • Schools Curriculum Award in 2000
  • Investor in People award

Currently, the school's 6th form (for students aged 16-18) is the largest it has ever been. It has over 170 students.

New Buildings and Future Plans

In September 2009, the school opened a big new building project. This project cost about £8.4 million. It added many new and improved facilities for different subjects.

The new developments included:

  • A new teaching block built where some tennis courts used to be.
  • Four new tennis courts on an unused field area.
  • A new sports hall in a wooded area called the 'spinney'.
  • A new playground in front of the school's largest teaching block, known as the 'B Block'.
  • A new car park to help with local parking. This took up the rest of the old tennis court area.

The school worked hard to protect the local environment. They avoided cutting down too many trees. They also planted new trees. Any trees that had to be cut down were used for wood-chip paths. Some wood was even used to build a gazebo in the 'spinney'.
