Becoming a Politician
Early Elections
John Flynn first became a TD in 1932. He was elected for the Kerry area. He was part of the Fianna Fáil political party. This party was, and still is, one of the main political groups in Ireland.
He was re-elected in 1933 for the same area. Later, in 1937 and 1938, he was elected for the Kerry South area. This shows he was a popular choice among voters in his home county.
Time Away and Return
John Flynn did not run in the elections in 1943 and 1944. However, he returned to politics in 1948. This time, he was elected as an Independent Republican TD. This means he ran for election without being part of a major political party.
He was re-elected again in 1951 as an Independent Republican. But by 1952, he decided to rejoin his original party, Fianna Fáil.
Later Political Career
John Flynn was elected as a Fianna Fáil TD again in the 1954 general election. He continued to serve his community in the Dáil. He ran for election one last time in 1957, but he was not re-elected that year.
