John Francis Sartorius facts for kids
John Francis Sartorius (who was active from about 1775 to 1831) was an English painter. He was famous for his paintings of horses, horse-racing, and hunting scenes. He was part of the well-known Sartorius family of artists.

John Francis was the son of another artist, John Nott Sartorius. His grandfather was also an artist named Francis Sartorius. John Francis also had a younger brother, Francis Sartorius Jr.. His brother was known for painting ships and sea scenes.
His Paintings and Exhibitions
John Francis Sartorius was very good at painting sports scenes. He knew a lot about hunting and horse racing. He started showing his paintings at the Royal Academy in London in 1802. At that time, he lived on King Street in Holborn. He continued to send paintings to the Royal Academy until 1827. In total, he showed 16 pictures there.
Many of his paintings were turned into prints for The Sporting Magazine. However, his father's work also appeared in the same magazine. Both artists often signed their work simply "Sartorius." This makes it hard to tell their paintings apart sometimes.
One of his most famous paintings is 'Coursing in Hatfield Park'. He showed this painting at the Royal Academy in 1806. It shows Emily Cecil, Marchioness of Salisbury. She was known for riding horses in the park every day, even when she was 86 years old!
