John James Barralet (born around 1747 – died January 16, 1815) was an artist from Ireland. He spent the last part of his life working in the United States. He was known for his beautiful landscape paintings.

His Early Life and Education
John James Barralet was born in Dublin, Ireland, in 1747. His family was originally from France. When he was seventeen, John James joined two art classes at The Dublin Society of Drawing schools.
In 1764, he won a special award, called a "premium," for his art. He learned from a teacher named James Mannin. John James won prizes for drawing human figures and heads, and for creating new designs and patterns.
His Art and Work
John James Barralet was especially good at painting landscapes, which are scenes of nature. He also drew figures, making his watercolor paintings feel very real and lively. His brother, John Melchior Barralet, became a teacher at The Royal Academy in London in 1770. He also had another brother named Joseph Barralet.
In June 1791, John James's drawings helped Benjamin Simpson win a contest. This contest was to design the gardens at Merrion Square in Dublin.
John James showed three of his landscape paintings at the Royal Academy in 1770. He continued to show his art there sometimes in the years that followed. He also drew pictures for books about old Irish history and artifacts.
Moving to America
In 1795, John James Barralet moved to America. He settled in a city called Philadelphia. He continued his artistic work there until he passed away in 1815.
