John Kavanagh (born January 18, 1978) is a famous Irish coach in martial arts. He is also a skilled practitioner of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and used to be a professional mixed martial artist. Some of his most well-known students include fighters like Conor McGregor, Makwan Amirkhani, and Gunnar Nelson.
About John Kavanagh
John Kavanagh is the person who started and leads the Straight Blast Gym Ireland (SBG Ireland) in Inchicore, a part of Dublin. He is also the current president of the Irish Mixed Martial Arts Association.
John became interested in mixed martial arts after watching a tournament called UFC 1 back in 1993. He was one of the first people to compete in MMA events in Ireland and the UK. He is also the very first Irish person to earn a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. In 2001, he joined the Straight Blast Gym International group of gyms, which was started by Matt Thornton.
Today, John Kavanagh is known as one of the best MMA coaches in the world. He was nominated for the "Coach of the Year" award at the World MMA Awards in 2016 and won it in 2017.
He also promotes a mixed martial arts event called Euro Fight Night. The first event took place in October 2019. John Kavanagh is also the current president of the Irish Amateur MMA Organisation, known as IMMMA.
