John Lee (artist) facts for kids
John Lee was a British painter who was active from about 1850 to 1870. He painted in a style that was similar to the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, a group of artists who liked to paint with bright colors and lots of detail. John Lee was part of a group of artists from the Merseyside area in England, which included other painters like William Lindsay Windus and William Davis. He was born in Liverpool to a family of merchants. He lived in Rock Ferry for a while before moving to London in 1866.
John Lee's paintings were shown at important art places like the Liverpool Academy from 1859 to 1867 and the Royal Academy in London from 1863 to 1867. Even though his work was displayed, not much is known about his life. We only know for sure about four paintings that he created.
