Life and Work of William Windus
William Lindsay Windus was born in Liverpool, England. He first learned about art from a painter named William Daniels. Later, he studied at the Liverpool Academy.
In 1850, Windus visited London. There, he discovered and became very interested in the Pre-Raphaelite style of art. This style focused on bright colors and detailed scenes.
He showed his new painting style in 1856. His painting, called Burd Helen, was displayed at the Royal Academy in London. Important artists like Dante Gabriel Rossetti and John Ruskin noticed his work. This helped Windus become a well-known and respected artist.
One of his earliest paintings was an oil on canvas. It was titled Black Boy and was painted in 1844.
