John Lloyd Bale (born 18 January 1837 – died 22 November 1885) was an important person in Queensland, Australia. He was a banker and a politician. He helped start several financial groups, including the one we now know as the Bank of Queensland. He also served as a member of the Queensland Parliament.

Who Was John Lloyd Bale?
John Lloyd Bale was a key figure in Queensland's early history. He was known for his work in banking and for being involved in politics. He helped create important financial institutions that are still around today.
His Early Years
John Lloyd Bale was born in London, England, on 18 January 1837. He was the oldest child of John and Hannah Bale. When he was about 12 years old, his family moved to Australia. They sailed on a ship called the Chaseley and arrived in Brisbane on 1 May 1849. At that time, Brisbane was part of the Colony of New South Wales.
On 4 August 1855, John married Eliza Slaughter. They had a large family together, with three sons and three daughters.
Building a Business
John Lloyd Bale first worked in a business that sold hardware. However, he faced some money problems in 1859. But he didn't give up! He worked hard and his situation got much better.
He went on to start several financial organizations. One of these groups eventually grew into the Bank of Queensland, which is a well-known bank today. John Lloyd Bale was the main leader of this bank until 1884. He had to leave his job because he wasn't feeling well. His brother, Benjamin Robert Bale, then took over as the chief executive and led the bank for about 20 years.
A Career in Politics
Besides his business work, John Lloyd Bale was also active in politics. From 1872 to 1884, he was an Alderman for the Brisbane City Council. An Alderman is like a local council member who helps make decisions for the city.
He also became a Member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. This is like being a member of the state parliament. He represented the area called Enoggera. He served in this role from 21 August 1883 until 13 October 1885.
Later Life
John Lloyd Bale passed away on 22 November 1885. He was buried at the Toowong Cemetery in Queensland.
