John Moule's Early Life and Work
John had an interesting start to his life. When he was a young boy, his family moved to the United States. By the time he was 20, he had already traveled to many different parts of the world!
Around 1865, John settled in South Australia. He began working with Ernst Siekmann, who was a storekeeper and a grain merchant in towns like Saddleworth and Caltowie. A grain merchant deals with buying and selling grains like wheat. Later, John became a partner in Siekmann's business. Around 1879, he moved to Adelaide, a larger city.
John Moule's Political Career
John Moule became involved in politics. He was elected to represent the area of Flinders in the South Australian House of Assembly. This is like being a member of parliament today, where he helped make laws and decisions for the region. He served in this role from April 1884 to April 1896.
During his time as a politician, he worked alongside other important figures like Andrew Tennant, William Horn, and Alexander Poynton. For a short time in 1893, John Moule also served as the Commissioner of Public Works. This meant he was in charge of important public projects, like building roads, bridges, and other things that help the community.
