John Nutt was an important person in his hometown of Canterbury. He was an alderman, which meant he was a leader in the city government. He lived in a place called Nackington House, near Nackington.
Becoming a Member of Parliament
In April 1640, John Nutt was chosen to be a Member of Parliament (MP) for Canterbury. This happened during a short meeting of Parliament called the Short Parliament. Later that same year, in November 1640, he was chosen again to be an MP for Canterbury in the Long Parliament. This Parliament lasted much longer.
Serving in the English Civil War
John Nutt was not just a politician; he was also a soldier. He became a captain in the army that supported Parliament. He also worked on a special committee for Kent, which was a group that helped Parliament manage things in that area.
Family Life and Later Years
John Nutt passed away when he was 63 years old. He was buried in Nackington. He was married twice. His first wife was Anne Master, and they had nine children together. After Anne died in 1641, John married Ann Aldrich.
