John Poulett, 2nd Baron Poulett (born 1615, died 15 September 1665) was an important English nobleman from Hinton St George in Somerset. He was also a Member of Parliament (a kind of elected leader). John Poulett was a strong supporter of the King, known as a Royalist, during the big conflict called the English Civil War.

Early Life and Political Role
John Poulett was the son of John Poulett, 1st Baron Poulett. He was born in 1615. In 1635, he was made a knight, which is a special honor given by the King.
Becoming a Member of Parliament
In 1640, John Poulett was chosen to be a Member of Parliament for Somerset. This was part of a group called the Long Parliament. However, he was removed from Parliament in 1642. This happened because he supported the King, who was fighting against Parliament.
Education and Military Service
In 1643, John Poulett earned a special degree. He became a Doctor of Medicine from Exeter College, Oxford. During the English Civil War, he led a group of soldiers in Ireland. After a temporary peace, he brought his soldiers to England. They helped defend Winchester Castle until it had to surrender.
English Civil War and Its Aftermath
John Poulett was a dedicated Royalist. This meant he fought for King Charles I. The war was a difficult time for many people in England.
Family Connections and Fines
John Poulett's first wife was Catherine Vere. Her sister was married to Lord Fairfax. Lord Fairfax was a very important leader for Parliament. Because of this family connection, John Poulett received a lighter punishment after the war. He was supposed to pay a large fine of £9,400. But because of Lord Fairfax, he only had to pay £1,800.
Later Life and Restoration
In 1649, John Poulett became the 2nd Baron Poulett after his father passed away. He left England and lived in another country for a while starting in 1658. However, he came back to England after the King was put back on the throne. This event is known as the Restoration. John Poulett died on 15 September 1665.
