John Richard Schmidhauser (born January 3, 1922 – died February 21, 2018) was an American politician and professor. He served one term in the U.S. House of Representatives. This is a part of the United States government. He represented a district in Iowa.
John Schmidhauser's Political Career
John Schmidhauser was a member of the Democratic Party. In 1964, he ran for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. He won against the person who was already in office, Fred Schwengel. John Schmidhauser served one term, from January 3, 1965, to January 3, 1967.
After his first term, he ran for re-election in 1966. However, he lost to Fred Schwengel. He tried again in 1968 but lost to Schwengel once more.
Life After Politics
After his time in politics, John Schmidhauser became a professor. He taught at the University of Southern California. This university is in Los Angeles. He worked there from 1973 to 1992.
During this time, he was also a visiting professor. He taught at the University of Virginia from 1982 to 1983. In 1984, he taught at Simon Fraser University. This university is in Burnaby, Canada. After 1992, he was a professor emeritus at the University of Southern California. This means he was a retired professor but still connected to the university.
Later Years and Passing
John Schmidhauser passed away on February 21, 2018. He was 96 years old. He died in Santa Barbara, California.
