John Reber was born in South Manheim Township, Pennsylvania. He grew up and went to school there. In 1875, he finished his studies at the Eastman Business College. This college was located in Poughkeepsie, New York.
Starting His Career
After college, John Reber worked as a teacher for several years. Later, he became a bookkeeper. A bookkeeper is someone who keeps track of money and financial records for a business.
From 1882 to 1884, he worked for Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania. He was the deputy county treasurer. This job involved helping to manage the county's money.
Business Ventures
John Reber also had a career in business. From 1885 to 1917, he owned a company in Pottsville, Pennsylvania. This company made hosiery, which are items like socks and stockings. He was also involved in banking, which means he worked with money and loans.
Serving in Congress
John Reber was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives. He was a Republican. He served in the 66th and 67th Congresses. A "Congress" is a group of elected officials who work together to make laws for the country.
Committee Work
During the 67th Congress, Reber became the Chairman of the United States House Committee on Mileage. This committee was in charge of checking the travel expenses of other members of Congress.

After his time in Congress, John Reber went back to working in banking in Pottsville. He eventually became the president of the Reber Investment Co. This company helped people invest their money.
John Reber passed away in Pottsville in 1931. He was buried in the Charles Baber Cemetery.
