Sir John Reynwell's Journey

Sir John Reynwell started his career as a fishmonger in the City of London. This means he bought and sold fish. He was very good at his job and became successful.

In 1412, he became a Sheriff of London. A sheriff was like a high-ranking officer who helped keep law and order in the city. Later, in 1426, he was chosen to be the Lord Mayor of London. This was the most important leader of the city at that time. After becoming Lord Mayor, he was also made a knight.

Sir John Reynwell was also a Member of Parliament for the City of London. This means he helped make laws and decisions for the country. He served as a Member of Parliament in 1410, 1415, 1433, and 1445.

What Was His Coat of Arms?

A coat of arms is a special design that represents a person or a family. Sir John Reynwell's coat of arms had a special pattern. It showed a "chevron" (which is like a V-shape) with three "dolphins embowed." This means the dolphins were curved, like they were swimming.

This design was similar to the old Guild of Fishmongers' arms. The Guild of Fishmongers was a group for people who worked with fish. Today, there is still a group called the Worshipful Company of Fishmongers that has similar symbols.
