John Roberts was the oldest son of Hugh Roberts. His mother was Anne Wynn Jones. Her family owned a place called Plas Newydd. This property became part of the Roberts family through his mother.

In 1687, John Roberts began studying law at Gray's Inn in London. In 1693, he married Susannah Parry. She later inherited Llwyn Ynn, which then became John Roberts's property.

Political Career in Parliament

John Roberts held an important local role before becoming a Member of Parliament. From 1705 to 1706, he was the High Sheriff of Denbighshire. This job involved keeping law and order in the county.

In the 1710 election, John Roberts was chosen to represent Denbigh Boroughs in the House of Commons. He was elected without anyone running against him. He was known as a Tory, which was a political group at the time. People thought he was a "Worthy patriot."

He lost his seat in the 1713 election but won it back in 1715. As a Tory, he voted on important issues. For example, in 1719, he voted against changing laws that affected religious groups. He also voted against a bill about who could become a peer (a member of the House of Lords).

In 1720, it was found that he had received shares in the South Sea Company. This company was involved in a famous financial crisis. In the 1722 election, he did not run for his seat again.

Later Life and Family

John Roberts's first wife, Susannah, passed away on January 19, 1722. He then married Jane Morris. She was the daughter of Sir Walter Bagot, 3rd Baronet, who was also a Member of Parliament.

John Roberts died on September 4, 1731. He had three sons with his first wife, but they all died before him. He also had a daughter. When he died, he left all his properties to his daughter.
