John Stewart was also the half-brother of King Robert II of Scotland. This means they shared one parent, but not both.
Captured in Battle
John Stewart was captured during a major battle called the Battle of Neville's Cross. This happened on October 17, 1346.
After being captured, he became a hostage. This meant he was held by the enemy to make sure King David II of Scotland behaved in a certain way.
