John Wiltshire was an English stage actor who lived during the Restoration period in England. This was a time in history when theaters, which had been closed for many years, were reopened, and acting became popular again.
John Wiltshire started his acting career by joining a famous group called the King's Company in 1675. A few years later, in 1679, he moved to a different acting group, the Duke's Company. From 1682 until he passed away, he was part of a combined group called the United Company.
Later in his life, John Wiltshire joined the English Army. He became a captain and sadly died while fighting in a war called the Nine Years' War. He was with the forces of King William III in a place called Flanders. Sometimes, his last name is spelled as Wilshire.
