John Robert Dixon (born April 2, 1899 – died February 3, 1985) was an American baseball player. He was a talented pitcher who played in the Negro Leagues during the 1920s and 1930s. He played for several different teams from 1926 to 1934.
What Were the Negro Leagues?
Imagine a time when baseball was very popular, but African American players were not allowed to play in the major leagues. This was because of segregation, which meant people were kept separate based on their race.
Because of this, amazing Black players created their own professional baseball leagues. These were called the Negro Leagues. Many of these players were just as good, or even better, than players in the major leagues at the time. They showed incredible skill and passion for the game.
John Robert Dixon's Baseball Journey
John Robert Dixon started his professional baseball career in 1926. He played as a pitcher for the St. Louis Stars. A pitcher is the player who throws the baseball from the mound to the batter.
