Johnny Reginald Davis (born October 21, 1955) is a former American professional basketball player and coach. He played in the National Basketball Association (NBA) for ten years. He also coached several NBA teams.

Johnny Davis was born on October 21, 1955. He became a professional basketball player in 1976. He played as a Point guard, which is a player who leads the team's offense.
Playing Career Highlights
Davis played for four different teams during his NBA career. He started with the Portland Trail Blazers. In his very first season (1976–77), he helped the Trail Blazers win an NBA championship. This is a huge achievement for any player!
After his time with Portland, he played for the Indiana Pacers. He also played for the Atlanta Hawks and the Cleveland Cavaliers. He was known for his ability to score points and pass the ball to his teammates. Over his career, he scored more than 9,700 points. He also made over 3,300 assists.
Coaching Journey
After retiring as a player in 1986, Johnny Davis began a long career as a basketball coach. He worked as an assistant coach for many different NBA teams. These teams included the Atlanta Hawks, Los Angeles Clippers, and his former team, the Portland Trail Blazers.
He also served as an assistant coach for the New Jersey Nets, Orlando Magic, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Indiana Pacers. Later, he joined the Memphis Grizzlies as an assistant coach.
Head Coaching Roles
Johnny Davis also had opportunities to be a head coach. He coached the Philadelphia 76ers during the 1996–97 NBA season. He also led the Orlando Magic for almost two seasons, from 2003 to 2005.
In 2009, he briefly became the interim head coach for the Memphis Grizzlies. This means he took over the team temporarily. Later, his former teammate, Lionel Hollins, became the head coach. Davis then went back to being an assistant coach for the Grizzlies. His coaching career continued with the Toronto Raptors from 2011 to 2013. He also worked as an assistant coach for the Los Angeles Lakers in 2013.
