Jolanda Felicia Jones (born November 6, 1965) is an American attorney, politician, and television personality. She was also a city councilor and a talented athlete. Jones is a member of the Democratic Party. She currently serves in the Texas House of Representatives, representing the 147th district. She started her term on May 18, 2022.

Early Life and Education

Jolanda Jones was born on November 6, 1965. She grew up in Houston's Third Ward. She is the oldest of five children. Her parents are John Ferrell Jones and Gwendolyn Jean West. Jolanda's mother always encouraged her to do well in school.

At Elsik High School, Jones was an amazing athlete. She was an All-American player in both basketball and track and field. Her athletic skills helped her earn a scholarship to the University of Houston. There, she studied political science.

College Sports Achievements

Jolanda Jones continued her sports career in college. She was a three-time champion at the NCAA track and field events. She won these titles in 1986, 1987, and 1989. She also won a bronze medal at the 1987 Pan American Games. In 1989, she became the US champion in her sport.

Becoming a Lawyer

After her successful sports career, Jones went on to study law. In 1995, she earned her law degree (J.D.) from the University of Houston Law Center. This prepared her for a career as a criminal defense lawyer in Texas.

Public Service and Television

Jolanda Jones has served her community in several ways. From 2008 to 2011, she was a member of the Houston City Council. She also served as a school board member.

Television Appearances

Beyond her work in law and politics, Jones has also appeared on television. In 2004, she was a contestant on the reality show Survivor: Palau. She was the third person to leave the game. Later, in 2016, she appeared on a reality series called "Sisters in Law." This show followed the lives of several Black female attorneys in Houston, Texas.

Joining the State Legislature

In May 2022, Jolanda Jones achieved another important milestone. She won a special election to represent Texas House District 147. This made her a member of the state legislature.
