Jolanda Felicia Jones, born on November 6, 1965, is an American lawyer, politician, and television personality. She was also a city council member and a talented athlete. Jones is a member of the Democratic Party. She currently serves in the Texas House of Representatives, representing the 147th district. She officially started her role on May 18, 2022.

Early Life and Education
Jolanda Jones was born in Houston, Texas. She was the oldest of five children. Her parents were John Ferrell Jones and Gwendolyn Jean West. She grew up in Houston's Third Ward.
During her childhood, Jones faced many challenges. Despite these tough times, her mother always wanted her to do well in school. Jones was a star athlete at Alief Elsik High School. She excelled in both basketball and track and field.
She earned an athletic scholarship to the University of Houston. There, she studied political science and earned her degree. Later, in 1995, she earned her law degree from the University of Houston Law Center. She is also a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority.
A Champion Athlete
Jolanda Jones was a very successful athlete. She competed in track and field events. At the 1987 Pan American Games, she won a bronze medal. In 1989, she became the US champion in her sport.
Representing the University of Houston, she won three NCAA championships. These wins happened in 1986, 1987, and 1989. Her athletic achievements showed her dedication and skill.
Public Service and Law
Jolanda Jones has a strong background in public service. From 2008 to 2011, she was a member of the Houston City Council. This role allowed her to help make decisions for the city. She also served as a school board member.
Besides her political work, Jones is a criminal defense lawyer in Texas. She helps people who are accused of crimes. In 2016, she appeared on a reality TV series. The show focused on several Black female attorneys working in Houston.
