The Story of Jolt Cola
Jolt Cola was originally created by The Jolt Company, Inc., in Rochester, New York. From the very start, Jolt was advertised for its high caffeine content. It was meant to help people stay awake and focused. The first slogan, "All the sugar and twice the caffeine," was used for 24 years. Later, it was simply changed to "Twice the Caffeine."
New Flavors and Products
In 1987, Jolt released a low-calorie version called Jolt 25. This drink had less sugar and only 25 calories per can. Over time, Jolt Cola added many new flavors. Some of these included Cherry Bomb, Citrus Climax, Orange Blast, White Lightning (grape), Red Eye, and Electric Blue.
In 2003, a company called Gumrunners, Inc., started making caffeinated gum and mints. These products also used the Jolt name and slogan, "Chew More, Do More." The gum came in Spearmint and Icy Mint flavors.
The "Battery Bottles" Era
In 2006, Jolt Cola changed its look and became "Jolt Energy." They introduced cool new packaging called "Jolt battery bottles." These bottles looked like AA batteries and made a loud popping sound when opened! They were resealable aluminum bottles, which was a new feature.
Jolt also offered smaller "Quick Fix" cans, similar to those used for Red Bull. The flavors changed too, with options like Power Cola, Blue Raspberry, Cherry Bomb, Silver (lemon-lime), Wild Grape, Orange Blast, and Passionfruit. They even had a diet version called Ultra.
Changes in Ownership
In 2008, the founder, C.J. Rapp, sold most of his share in the company. The new owners later faced financial problems. After some legal issues, C.J. Rapp and other original shareholders regained control.
In 2017, Jolt Cola made a comeback at Dollar General stores. However, by 2019, Jolt Cola stopped updating its social media. Soon after, Dollar General stopped selling the drink.
Jolt Energy Products
Since 2006, Jolt Cola and its other flavors have been known as Jolt Energy. Jolt Energy drinks come in many flavors. These include Power Cola, Orange Burst, Wild Grape, Blue Bolt (blue raspberry), Blue Zero Carb, Cherry Bomb, Ultra, and Silver. The company also makes caffeinated chewing gums called Jolt Energy Gum.
