Jonathan David Schnepp (born May 16, 1967 – died July 19, 2018) was a talented American filmmaker and artist. He worked as a producer, director, voice actor, editor, writer, and animator. He was also a popular host on online shows.
Jon Schnepp was best known for directing and writing the documentary film The Death of "Superman Lives": What Happened?. He also directed episodes for popular animated TV shows like Metalocalypse and The Venture Bros.. Many people also knew him from his work with Collider, where he often appeared on their movie and superhero discussion shows.
Jon Schnepp's Career in Film and TV
Jon Schnepp started his career working on animated shows. He was an animation director for What's Inside Heidi's Head? on Nickelodeon. He also worked as an editor for many episodes of Cartoon Network's Space Ghost Coast to Coast.
Later, he directed parts of the TV series Upright Citizens Brigade for Comedy Central. He also created and directed two short films called The Removers and Brainwarp. Jon even traveled to Brazil to work on TV shows there. He also lent his voice to characters in three episodes of Aqua Teen Hunger Force.
From 2006 to 2012, Jon Schnepp directed many episodes of Metalocalypse. This was an animated series on Cartoon Network about a fictional heavy metal band called Dethklok. Jon helped design the look of the band members. He also helped write the Dethklok comic books.
Jon also co-directed parts of The Venture Bros., another animated series. He directed music videos for bands like I Set My Friends on Fire and Forbidden.
From 2012 to 2015, Jon was a regular guest on AMC Movie Talk on YouTube. This show discussed movie news. When the show moved to Collider, Jon continued to be a popular panelist.
In 2015, Jon Schnepp directed a documentary film called The Death of "Superman Lives": What Happened?. A documentary is a non-fiction film that tells a true story. This film explored why a planned Tim Burton movie called Superman Lives was never made. Jon raised money for the film through a successful Kickstarter campaign. The documentary was released in 2015 and received good reviews.
His Passing
On July 12, 2018, Jon Schnepp had a serious stroke. He passed away a week later, on July 19, 2018, at the age of 51.
