Gunnar Jonas Sima (born May 31, 1937) is a Swedish filmmaker, journalist, writer, and teacher. He was born in Hudiksvall, Sweden, and has created many films and written several books.
Biography
Jonas Sima grew up in Ljusdal in Gävleborg County, even though he was born in Hudiksvall. Since 1988, he has been the secretary of the Hälsingland Academy, which is a group that focuses on culture in the Hälsingland region.
In 2006, he tried to become a member of the Swedish Parliament. He ran with the Social Democratic party in Stockholm, but he was not elected.
In recent years, he was on the board of the Stockholm City Theatre from 1998 to 2006. He also worked as a secretary for a group called the "Cultural Workers Social Democratic Union," which is for people in the arts.
Jonas Sima is married to Inger Edvardsson. She works at the Swedish Film Institute. They have two grown-up daughters.
Writing and Film Work
Jonas Sima worked for the Swedish newspaper Expressen for many years. He was a film critic for 11 years, where he reviewed movies. After that, he was a reporter for 22 years. Before he left the newspaper in 2000, he wrote personal interviews for the back page.
Today, he works on his own. He reviews movies and books, writes articles, and gives talks for the "Workers Educational Association" (ABF). He writes for movie magazines, political magazines, and other publications. He also writes regular columns for smaller newspapers in Hälsingland, like Hudiksvalls Tidning and Ljusdals-Posten.
Jonas Sima has helped write more than 20 books. One famous book is Bergman on Bergman (1970), which is an interview book about a famous film director. He also wrote three children's books about characters called the Blåsjöbarna, which means "Blue Lake children."
He has edited three collections of writings about the Hälsingland region. One of his books, Kalas-Praktika (2009), teaches you how to make a special kind of fish soup. Another book, Citizen Schein (2010), is about Harry Schein, who was important in helping the Swedish film industry become financially strong.
Jonas Sima has made about 60 documentary films and two feature films. Most of these films have been shown on Swedish television. Some of his recent films include Filmaren i Storskogen (2009) and Lisbet (2011). Lisbet is a conversation with Lisbet Palme, who is the wife of a former Swedish Prime Minister. She also works for UNICEF, which helps children around the world.
