Jonathan Haze (born Jack Aaron Schachter; April 1, 1929 – November 2, 2024) was an American actor, producer, and screenwriter. He was famous for his roles in movies made by Roger Corman. His most well-known role was Seymour Krelboined in the 1960 movie The Little Shop of Horrors. This film is a black comedy and a cult classic.
Early Life
Jonathan Haze was born Jack Schachter on April 1, 1929. His birthplace was Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. His parents were Betty and Harry Schachter. Harry was a jeweller. Jonathan's cousin was the famous jazz drummer Buddy Rich.
Starting His Acting Career
Jonathan Haze was working at a gas station in California. There, he was discovered by a director named Wyott Ordung. Ordung was directing a movie called Monster from the Ocean Floor (1954). Roger Corman was producing this film. Ordung offered Haze a small part in the movie.
Roger Corman was very impressed with Haze. Over the next ten years, Corman cast Haze in many of his films. Some of these movies include:

Haze also acted in movies not made by Corman. These included Bayou (1957) and Ghost of the China Sea (1958).
Later Work in Film
In 1959, Jonathan Haze appeared in an episode of the NBC western television series Cimarron City. The episode was called "Terror Town." In this show, George Montgomery was the main star.
Haze also started working behind the scenes in filmmaking. In 1957, he sold his first movie script. It was called The Monster of Nicholson Mesa and was a funny take on horror films. He also wrote the 1962 science fiction comedy movie Invasion of the Star Creatures.
He worked in film production for several movies, such as:
