Jonathan Kelly (born Jonathan Ledingham, 8 July 1947 – 2 May 2020) was an Irish singer and songwriter. He was known for his folk rock music. Jonathan had an interesting career, playing with many famous musicians and groups. These included Eric Clapton and Tim Staffell. In 1973, he even started his own band called Jonathan Kelly's Outside.

Jonathan Kelly was born in Drogheda, a town in County Louth, Ireland. He went to Drogheda Grammar School when he was younger.
He played the bass guitar for a band called Humpy Bong. The drummer in this band was Colin Petersen, who used to play with the famous group Bee Gees. Humpy Bong only released one song called "Don't You Be Too Long". After this, Colin Petersen became Jonathan's manager. Jonathan then released two albums with RCA. These albums were Twice Around the Houses and Wait til They Change the Backdrop.
Jonathan Kelly's Outside
In 1974, Jonathan formed his band, Jonathan Kelly's Outside. The band members were Jonathan Kelly, Snowy White and Chas Jankel on guitars, Dave Sheen on drums, and Trevor Williams on bass guitar. Trevor used to play with the band Audience.
Some of the band members became very famous later on. Snowy White played with big bands like Pink Floyd and Thin Lizzy. He also had a successful solo career. Chas Jankel later joined Ian Dury and the Blockheads. Jonathan Kelly's Outside recorded one album called ...Waiting On You in 1974. They also released a single with the songs "...Waiting On You" and "Outside". After this, the band members decided to go their separate ways.
Jonathan Kelly stopped performing music in 1976. However, he returned to the stage for a few years between 2004 and 2007. During this time, he played some solo acoustic concerts in smaller places.
Jonathan Kelly passed away on 2 May 2020, after being ill for a long time.
