Jonathan Ormond Torrens (born October 2, 1972) is a Canadian actor and TV star. He is well-known for hosting Street Cents and Jonovision. He also played "J-Roc" in the popular Canadian show Trailer Park Boys. In 2014, he started a podcast called Taggart and Torrens with Jeremy Taggart. They talk about many things, from sports to current events.

Early Life and School Days

Jonathan Torrens was born in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. When he was a child, he lived in Sherwood. He went to Sherwood Elementary School and first acted on stage in Grade 1.

In 1983, his family moved to Halifax. He then went to St. Patrick's High School. Jonathan's sister, Jackie Torrens, is also an actress and writer.

Jonathan Torrens's Career

Jonathan Torrens started his career early. From 1989 to 1996, he helped host Street Cents. This was a TV show on CBC Television for teens. It taught them about buying things and being smart consumers.

After that, he hosted his own show, Jonovision. This was a talk show for teens that ran from 1996 to 2001. Jonathan also helped produce and write for the show.

Acting Roles and TV Shows

Jonathan has played many different characters. In 2003, he was in a six-episode TV show called Jonathan Crosses Canada. In this show, he traveled all over Canada in a large RV.

He also had a role as Shane McKay in Degrassi: The Next Generation. This show was a new version of the teen drama Degrassi Junior High. Jonathan had brought the original Degrassi cast together on Jonovision in 1999. This special episode was very popular and helped bring Degrassi back to TV.

Jonathan is very well known for his role as J-Roc on Trailer Park Boys. He appeared in the TV series and all the Trailer Park Boys movies. In 2013, he gained weight to play J-Roc again for the movie Trailer Park Boys: Don't Legalize It. He also helped write for Seasons 9 and 10 of the show. Jonathan left Trailer Park Boys in 2016.

He has also been in other TV shows like Mr. D, Call Me Fitz, Game On, and Letterkenny.

Other Projects

In 2009, Jonathan started his own TV show called TV With TV's Jonathan Torrens. It was on the TVtropolis network until 2011. He was also a co-host for the reality TV show Wipeout Canada in 2010.

In October 2017, Jonathan and Jeremy Taggart released a book called Canadianity: Tales From The true North Strong And Freezing. The book shares fun stories about their travels across Canada. It also talks about famous local people and great places to eat.

In 2019, Jonathan started a web series called Your Two Cents. This show helps teach people about money.

In 2021, Jonathan wrote, directed, and starred in a sitcom called Vollies. This show is about volunteer firefighters. He was nominated for an award for his acting in Vollies in 2022.

More recently, in 2022, he started a role on the show Shoresy. He also played the father in the movie Kids vs. Aliens.
