A Look Back in Time
Jonesboro got its name from Doctor Jones, one of the first people to settle there. A very important event happened here on September 15, 1858. It was the third of the famous Lincoln-Douglas debates. These were public discussions between Abraham Lincoln and Stephen Douglas about important issues of the time.
You can also find the Trail of Tears State Forest not far from Jonesboro. This area has historical importance related to the forced removal of Native American tribes.
