About Jordan Abel
Jordan Abel was born in Vancouver, British Columbia. His father is Nisga'a and his mother is white. He grew up in Barrie, Ontario.
His Education Journey
Jordan Abel studied English and Creative Writing. He earned his first degree from the University of Alberta in 2008. Later, he received a Master's degree from the University of British Columbia in 2012. He then completed his Ph.D. from Simon Fraser University in 2019.
Jordan Abel's Writing Career
Jordan Abel's writing often explores important topics. He writes about how European settlers came to live on Indigenous lands. He uses unique ways to tell these stories. For example, he sometimes takes old books and rearranges their words. This helps him create new meanings.
His Award-Winning Books
His first book of poems was called The Place of Scraps. It used writings from an old researcher named Marius Barbeau. This book won the Dorothy Livesay Poetry Prize in 2014. It was also a finalist for the Gerald Lampert Award.
