Jordan Akins' Early Life and Sports Choices
Jordan Akins went to Union Grove High School in McDonough, Georgia. He was a great player, earning "All-State" honors in his junior and senior years. He also received "All-Conference" honors as a sophomore.
Jordan planned to play football for the UCF Knights. Big schools like LSU and Georgia also wanted him. However, something unexpected happened.
Choosing Baseball Over College Football
In 2010, the Texas Rangers picked Jordan in the third round of the 2010 MLB Draft. He decided to play professional baseball instead of going to UCF for football.
Jordan played in the minor leagues for four seasons. He found it tough and decided to stop playing baseball after the 2013 season. After that, he went back to his original plan: playing football at UCF.
Jordan Akins' College Football Journey at UCF
Jordan Akins joined the UCF Knights in 2014. Even though he was a true freshman (a first-year college player), he played in all 13 games. He caught 12 passes for 135 yards and also returned 15 kickoffs.
Overcoming Injuries and Earning Awards
In 2015, Jordan started the season strong. But he got a serious injury in the third game. Because of this, he took a "medical redshirt" year. This meant he could heal and still have another year of college eligibility.
He returned in 2016 as a redshirt sophomore. He played in all 13 games again. That season, he caught 23 passes for 347 yards and scored two touchdowns.
Before the 2017 season, Jordan was named to the John Mackey Award watch list. This award goes to the best tight end in college football. He played in 12 games, catching 32 passes for 515 yards and four touchdowns. After this successful season, Jordan decided to enter the 2018 NFL draft.

Jordan Akins' Professional Football Career
After his college career, Jordan Akins prepared for the NFL. He took part in the 2018 Senior Bowl, a game where top college players show their skills to NFL teams. He caught two passes for 31 yards in that game.
Jordan also attended private workouts with several NFL teams. These workouts help teams decide which players to draft.
Joining the Houston Texans (First Time)
The Houston Texans picked Jordan Akins in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft. He was the 98th player chosen overall. This made him the highest-drafted tight end ever from UCF.
On May 10, 2018, Jordan signed a four-year contract with the Texans. In his first NFL game against the New England Patriots, he caught two passes. He played in all 16 games that season, starting six of them. He finished his rookie year with 17 catches for 225 yards.
In 2019, during Week 3, Jordan had a great game against the Chargers. He caught three passes for 73 yards and scored two touchdowns. For the whole 2019 season, he had 36 catches for 418 yards and two touchdowns.
In Week 1 of the 2020 season, Jordan caught a touchdown pass against the Chiefs.
Moving to the New York Giants
On April 22, 2022, Jordan Akins signed a one-year contract with the New York Giants. However, he was released by the team on August 24, 2022.
Returning to the Houston Texans (Second Time)
On August 31, 2022, Jordan was signed to the Texans' practice squad. He was later moved to the main team on October 12.
Playing for the Cleveland Browns
On March 18, 2023, Jordan Akins signed a two-year contract with the Cleveland Browns. He has been playing for the Browns since then.
