Jordan Owens' Hockey Journey
Jordan Owens began his professional hockey career in 2007. He was not chosen in the main player draft, which means he was an "undrafted free agent." Even so, the New York Rangers team signed him to a contract on June 12, 2007.
Playing in North America
Owens spent four seasons playing for teams connected to the Rangers. On March 3, 2010, he was traded to the Detroit Red Wings team. This trade was in exchange for another player named Kris Newbury. He played for teams like the Hartford Wolf Pack and the Grand Rapids Griffins in the AHL. The AHL is a league just below the top NHL league. He also played for the Hamilton Bulldogs and the Connecticut Whale.
Playing Overseas
In 2014, Jordan decided to play hockey in other countries. He signed a one-year contract with the WSV Sterzing Broncos in Italy. After that, he played for the Fischtown Pinguins in Germany. In July 2018, Owens moved to the United Kingdom to play for the Sheffield Steelers in the Elite Ice Hockey League. He later returned to Australia to play for the Melbourne Mustangs.
Life After Hockey
After retiring from playing hockey, Jordan Owens started a new career. He first worked as a developer in Toronto. Now, he works as a freelance software engineer, which means he helps different companies with their software projects.
Family Life and YouTube
In late 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, Owens and his family moved. He, his wife, and their daughter moved from Toronto to Saint John, New Brunswick. They made this move because housing was more affordable there. Jordan and his family share their experiences of living in New Brunswick on their YouTube channel called "A Tribe Called Owens."
