Jorge Lopes Bom Jesus, also known as JBJ, is a linguist and politician from São Tomé and Príncipe. He served as the 17th Prime Minister of São Tomé and Príncipe from December 3, 2018, to November 10, 2022. He is a member of the Movement for the Liberation of São Tomé and Príncipe/Social Democratic Party (MLSTP-PSD).

About Jorge Bom Jesus
Jorge Lopes Bom Jesus was born on July 26, 1962. His birthplace was Conceição, in the Água Grande district of São Tomé and Príncipe.
His Education
When he was younger, he traveled to Europe. He studied French and Portuguese literature at the University of Toulouse in France. He also earned a master's degree in Portuguese. He specialized in African literature during his studies.
He also studied at the University of Porto. There, he learned how to teach French and Portuguese languages. Later, he earned a Ph.D. (a very high degree) in public administration. He received this degree from the University of São Tomé and Príncipe.
His Career
Jorge Bom Jesus has held many important jobs. He was an advisor to the Minister of Culture and Information. He also served as the Director General of Education and Training. He was the Secretary General for the National Commission for UNESCO.
He worked as the Director of Educational Planning and Innovation. He was also the Director of the National Library of São Tomé and Príncipe. For several years, he worked as a teacher. He also led the School of Teacher Education and Educators.
His Political Journey
From 2008 to 2010, he was the Minister of Education and Culture. This was during the government led by Rafael Branco. Later, from 2012 to 2014, he served as the Minister of Education, Culture, and Science. This was under the government of Gabriel Costa.
Jorge Bom Jesus became a member of the MLSTP-PSD party's Political Commission in 2006. In 2011, he was chosen as the party's vice-president. In 2018, he was unanimously elected as the president of the party. He was known for being calm and helping different groups work together.
During the election campaign, many people thought he was quiet. However, he surprised everyone with his leadership. He helped his party, the MLSTP-PSD, become very strong in the election. Many believed his leadership was key to the party's success. His party finished second in the election.
Becoming Prime Minister
Even though his party came in second, other parties did not want the first-place party to form a government. Because of this, the MLSTP-PSD started talking with other parties. These parties included the MDFM-PL, PCD-GR, and UDD. They decided to form a special team-up government. This kind of team-up had never happened before in São Tomé and Príncipe.
President Evaristo Carvalho officially appointed him as Prime Minister on November 30, 2018. He officially took office on December 3, 2018. As Prime Minister, he stated that one of his main goals was to fight against corruption.
In his first speech as Prime Minister, he spoke in Forro Creole. This was a special moment because it was the first time a head of government had done this.

Jorge Bom Jesus is married to Clara Ferreira Bom Jesus. They have five children together.
