Jorge Luis Burruchaga (born October 9, 1962) is a famous Argentine football coach and former player. People often call him Burru. He was a talented player who could play as an attacking midfielder or a striker. He is most famous for scoring the winning goal in the final of the 1986 FIFA World Cup.

Playing Career: A Football Star's Journey
Jorge Burruchaga started his football journey in Gualeguay, Argentina. He began playing professionally in 1980 for Arsenal de Sarandí. At that time, Arsenal was in Argentina's second division.
Joining Independiente: Winning Big Trophies
In 1982, Burruchaga joined Independiente, a top team in Argentina. He quickly became a key player. With Independiente, he helped win several important titles. These included the Metropolitano 1983 league championship. They also won the Copa Libertadores in 1984. This is South America's biggest club competition. After that, they won the Intercontinental Cup in 1984. This made them champions against the best team from Europe.
Playing in France: European Adventures
After his success in Argentina, Burruchaga moved to France. He played for Nantes for seven years. He then played one year for Valenciennes. After his time in France, he returned to Argentina.
Back to Independiente: More Victories
Burruchaga came back to Independiente for his final years as a player. He continued his winning ways. He helped the team win the Supercopa Sudamericana and the Recopa Sudamericana, both in 1995. He was part of the Argentina squad that won the 1986 FIFA World Cup in Mexico. He scored two goals in that tournament. One of his most famous moments was scoring the winning goal in the final match. Argentina beat West Germany 3–2, and Burruchaga's goal secured the victory.
1990 FIFA World Cup: Another Final
Burruchaga also played in every match for Argentina at the 1990 FIFA World Cup in Italy. Argentina reached the final again, but this time they finished as runners-up. Overall, he scored 13 goals for Argentina in 59 games between 1983 and 1990.
Managerial Career: Leading Teams
After retiring as a player, Burruchaga became a football coach.
Coaching in Argentina and Paraguay
He coached Arsenal de Sarandí starting in 2002. He helped the team stay in the top division. Later, he coached Estudiantes de La Plata for the 2005–06 season. In 2006, he moved to coach Independiente, where he stayed until 2007. He also managed Banfield from 2008 to 2009.
Burruchaga returned to Arsenal de Sarandí in 2009 before leaving in 2010. He then coached Paraguayan club Club Libertad starting in 2011. From 2012 to 2014, he managed Atlético de Rafaela in Argentina's top division. He returned to coach Rafaela for a second time in 2015.
Role with the National Team
At the 2018 FIFA World Cup, Burruchaga served as the general manager for the Argentina national football team.
