Jorge Luis Burruchaga (born October 9, 1962) is a famous Argentine football coach and former player. People often call him Burru. He played as an attacking midfielder and a forward. He is most famous for scoring the winning goal in the 1986 FIFA World Cup Final.

Club Career Highlights
Jorge Burruchaga was born in Gualeguay, Entre Ríos, Argentina. He started his football journey in 1980 with Arsenal de Sarandí. At that time, Arsenal was in Argentina's second division.
Playing for Independiente
In 1982, Burruchaga joined Independiente. He quickly became a key player. With Independiente, he helped his team win the Metropolitano Championship in 1983. The team also won the Copa Libertadores and the Intercontinental Cup in 1984. These were big wins for the club!
Time in France
After his success in Argentina, Burruchaga moved to France. He played for Nantes for seven years. Later, he played for Valenciennes for one year. During his time at Valenciennes, he was involved in a difficult situation. There was a problem where another team tried to offer money to his club to lose a game. Burruchaga said he first agreed but then changed his mind. He faced a suspended jail sentence because of this incident.
Return to Argentina
After his time in France, Burruchaga went back to Argentina. He rejoined Independiente for his final years as a player. He continued to win titles, including the Supercopa Sudamericana and the Recopa Sudamericana, both in 1995. He played his last professional football match on April 10, 1998.
International Success with Argentina
Burruchaga was a very important player for the Argentine national team.
1986 FIFA World Cup Champion
He was part of the amazing Argentina squad that won the 1986 FIFA World Cup. He scored two goals in that tournament. One of his most memorable goals was the winning goal in the final match. This goal helped Argentina beat West Germany 3-2, making them world champions!
1990 FIFA World Cup Runner-up
Burruchaga also played in every game for Argentina at the 1990 FIFA World Cup. He scored one goal in that tournament. Argentina reached the final again but finished as runners-up. Overall, he scored 13 goals for Argentina in 59 games between 1983 and 1990.
Managerial Career
After retiring as a player, Burruchaga became a football coach.
He coached Arsenal de Sarandí from 2002 to 2005. He helped the team stay strong in the first division. He then managed Estudiantes de La Plata and later Independiente. He also coached Banfield.
In 2009, he returned to coach Arsenal de Sarandí again. He also managed Paraguayan club Club Libertad in 2011. From 2012 to 2014, and again in 2015-2016, he managed Atlético de Rafaela in Argentina.
At the 2018 FIFA World Cup, Burruchaga served as the general manager for the Argentina national football team.
Personal Life
Jorge Burruchaga has faced personal challenges. In 1995, his wife, Laura Mendoza, sadly passed away from injuries after a car accident. He is a father to two sons who are also involved in sports: Mauro Burruchaga is a footballer, and Román Burruchaga is a tennis player.
