Jorge Marrale

Jorge Marrale (born June 30, 1947) is a well-known actor from Argentina. He has starred in many films, TV shows, and plays throughout his long career.

Early Life and Acting Start

Jorge Marrale was born in 1947 in Barracas, a part of Buenos Aires, Argentina. His mother was from Spain, and his father was from Italy. His grandfather was an actor in Italy, and he helped Jorge become interested in acting. Watching the famous Italian actor Vittorio Gassman also inspired him.

By 1970, Jorge was studying acting at the Dramatic Arts Conservatory. Soon after, he joined the National Comedy group at the well-known Cervantes Theatre. His first play was White Wedding. He also acted in local versions of famous plays like White Nights and William Shakespeare's Midsummer Night's Dream.

Career in Film and Television

Jorge Marrale first appeared in a movie called Contragolpe (Retribution) in 1979. It was directed by Alejandro Doria. He also acted in TV shows, including a public television version of Romeo and Juliet and a Channel 9 show based on Les Miserables (both in 1981).

Alejandro Doria cast Marrale again in his 1984 movie, Darse cuenta (Realization). Jorge also played the main male role in Los amores de Kafka (Loves of Kafka) in 1988. The director, Beda Docampo Feijóo, also chose him for her 1992 film, The Eternal Husband. Marrale also played a shepherd in a TV movie called El Sur. This film was based on a short story by the Argentine writer Jorge Luis Borges.

He continued to perform regularly in the theatre. He worked with famous Argentine writers like Roberto Cossa. Jorge has also been in many television shows since 1981. He has played roles in different types of shows, such as:

  • Biopics: Movies or shows about real people's lives.
  • Docudramas: Shows that mix documentary and drama.
  • Telenovelas: Long soap operas.

Most of these TV roles were on Channel 9 and Telefe. A notable role was in a 1996 TV production of Julio Cortázar's La salud de los enfermos (The Health of the Sick).

In 1996, Marrale starred in a mystery film called Geisha. He played an heir involved in a dispute over money with a mysterious young woman. In 1997, he was in Cenizas del paraíso (Ashes from Heaven). He also played the former President Juan Perón in the 2004 film Ay Juancito. This movie was about Perón's brother-in-law, Juan Duarte.

Jorge Marrale worked with director Alejandro Doria again in 2006 for the movie Las manos (The Hands). In this film, Marrale played the real-life Father Mario Pantaleo. Jorge Marrale has won many awards for his acting in movies, TV, and theatre. He is still one of the most active actors in Argentina. He also teaches acting and helps direct the Beckett Theatre in Buenos Aires.
