Jorge Antonio Ricardo was born on September 30, 1961, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He is a famous jockey in South American Thoroughbred horse racing. He is known for winning more races than almost anyone else in the sport's history!
On February 5, 2007, he became the jockey with the most wins ever. Later, another jockey, Russell Baze, passed his record. But on February 6, 2018, Jorge Ricardo equaled Baze's record of 12,844 wins. A few weeks later, he broke that record again!

Early Life and Family
Jorge Ricardo grew up in a family of jockeys. His father and two uncles were also jockeys. This means he was around horse racing from a very young age!
Starting His Career
He began his professional racing career in 1976. Since then, he has had an amazing journey. He won 400 races in a single year five different times. That's a lot of wins!
Champion Jockey Titles
Jorge Ricardo was Brazil's top jockey for 25 years in a row. This winning streak lasted from 1982 to 2006. Between 1982 and 2011, he won 29 yearly riding titles. Twenty-six of these were in Brazil and three were in Argentina.
Major Race Wins
He has won over 160 important races called "Grade 1" races. One of these big races is the “Gran Premio Asociación Latinoamericana de Jockey Clubes e Hipódromos”. He won this race five times!
The horse he rode to win the most races was named Much Better.
Breaking Records
In 1993, Jorge Ricardo set a new record in Brazil. He won 477 races in just one year. Then, in 2008, he broke the record in Argentina. He won 465 races that year.
On December 29, 2007, he won his 9,981st career race. This happened at the Hipodromo Argentino de Palermo in Palermo, Buenos Aires. This win made him the all-time leader in racing wins, passing Russell Baze.
Just a few weeks later, on January 9, 2008, he reached a huge milestone. He earned his 10,000th win! This historic win happened while riding a horse named Membresia in Buenos Aires.
On May 26, 2013, he reached 12,000 career victories. At that time, he held the world record for race wins. Later, on February 6, 2018, he won his 12,844th race on a horse named Jubiliea. This win tied him with the now-retired Russell Baze for the most wins.
Jorge Ricardo is also one of the top jockeys in the Carreras de las Estrellas series of races. He has won 10 races in this series.
