Jorquera River
Country Chile

The Jorquera River is an important river located in the Atacama Region of Chile. It starts high up in the Andes mountains. This river is formed when two smaller rivers, the Turbio River (coming from the east) and the Figueroa River (coming from the north), join together. Later, the Jorquera River meets the Pulido River, and together they create the larger Copiapó River.

Where is the Jorquera River Located?

The Jorquera River flows through the Atacama Region in northern Chile. This area is known for being very dry, with large deserts. Rivers like the Jorquera are vital sources of water in such arid places.

How the River is Formed

The Jorquera River begins its journey from the Andes mountains. It is created by the meeting of two other rivers:

  • The Turbio River, which flows from the eastern side.
  • The Figueroa River, which flows from the northern side.

When these two rivers combine, they form the Jorquera River.

Joining Other Rivers

As the Jorquera River continues its path, it eventually meets another river called the Pulido River. At this meeting point, these two rivers merge to form the Copiapó River. The Copiapó River is a much larger and more well-known river in the region.

Why is the Jorquera River Important?

Rivers in the Atacama Region are extremely important. They provide water for people, farms, and animals in a very dry environment. The Jorquera River helps supply water to the communities and agricultural areas along its banks. It is a key part of the water system that supports life in this desert region.
