Jacob Jorrit Bergsma (born February 1, 1986) is a famous Dutch speed skater and marathon skater. He is known for winning many medals, especially in long-distance races. His biggest win was a gold medal at the 2014 Winter Olympics in the 10,000-meter race. His coach is Jillert Anema.

Jorrit's Skating Journey

Jorrit started skating for the BAM team in the 2010-2011 season. Before that, in 2009, he won his first big marathon skating race, the DSB Bank Cup.

During the 2009-2010 season, Jorrit tried to qualify for the Olympic Games by representing Kazakhstan. He won the 5000-meter race at the national championships in Russia. However, the ISU (the main skating organization) did not allow him to compete for Kazakhstan. So, Jorrit decided to stop that plan. Later that season, he won a special long-distance race called the Alternatieve Elfstedentocht in Austria.

Jorrit became the Dutch Marathon Champion in 2010. He won this title again in 2012 on natural ice. In 2010, he also won the first-ever Ronde van Duurswold, a classic race on natural ice.

In November 2011, he became the Dutch 5000-meter champion at the Dutch Single Distance Championships. He also set a new rink record in the 5000-meter race at the first World Cup event in Chelyabinsk.

Olympic Success

Jorrit had great success at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. He won a gold medal in the 10,000-meter race, setting a new Olympic record with a time of 12:44.45. He also earned a bronze medal in the 5000-meter race at the same Olympics.

At the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, Jorrit continued his success. He won a silver medal in the 10,000-meter race.
