About José Antonio Expósito
José Antonio Expósito was born in 1978. He has an intellectual disability, which means he learns and understands things differently. In 2013, he received a very special award called the Gold Royal Order of Sports Merit. This award recognizes his great achievements in sports. In November 2013, he was honored at a big sports event where he received a standing ovation from everyone.
His Athletics Career
José Antonio competes in events for athletes with intellectual disabilities. These events are classified as T20 for track events and F20 for field events. He has been the world record holder for the T20 Long Jump since 2005, which is a fantastic achievement!
Early Competitions and Wins
He competed in the 2008 INAS World Indoor Athletics Championships in Tallinn, Estonia. There, he won two gold medals: one in the 60 meters race and another in the long jump. He also earned a bronze medal in the 4x400 meter relay race.
In 2010, José Antonio won two gold medals at the European championships. He was the best in both the 100 meters race and the long jump events.
More International Success
He also competed in the 2010 INAS European Athletics Championship. Again, he won two gold medals in the long jump and 100 meter events.
In 2011, José Antonio was one of 32 athletes representing Spain at the IPC Athletics World Championships. Later that year, he competed in the 2011 INAS World Games. He won a silver medal in the 4x100 meter relay race with his teammates Francisco Santiago, Alberto Palomo, and Dionibel Rodríguez Rodríguez.
National Championships and Support
José Antonio has won many Spanish national championships in his sports category. He competed in the 2012 Spanish national championships held in San Javier. In 2012, he received a scholarship from a program called Plan ADOP. This scholarship helped support his training and also provided funds for his coach.
He competed in the 2013 World Athletics Championships for people with intellectual disabilities, which took place in the Czech Republic. He won another gold medal in the long jump at this event. In July 2013, he also participated in the 2013 IPC Athletics World Championships.
Paralympic Games Achievements
José Antonio Expósito was part of the Spanish team at the 2000 Summer Paralympics in Sydney, Australia. He competed in the javelin and shot put events. However, his biggest successes were in the 100 meters race and the long jump, where he won two gold medals!
After the Sydney Games, events for athletes with intellectual disabilities were temporarily removed from the Paralympic program. But they were brought back for the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London. Just like in 2000, José Antonio won another gold medal in the T20 Long Jump event in London. This shows his incredible talent and determination over many years.
