José Antonio García Calvo (born on April 1, 1975) is a Spanish former professional footballer. He played as a central defender, which means he helped protect his team's goal.

Early Days at Real Madrid
García Calvo played six games for Real Madrid's main team during the 1996–97 season. That year, Real Madrid won the La Liga championship. He played a total of 16 matches for the club. His first game was on March 2, 1996, when Real Madrid won 5–0 against UD Salamanca.
Time with Real Valladolid
After leaving Real Madrid, García Calvo joined Real Valladolid. He quickly became a key player for the team. He scored his first professional goal in his first year with Valladolid, in a 4–0 win against Real Zaragoza.
Moving to Atlético Madrid
Later, García Calvo spent five years playing for another big club from Madrid, Atlético Madrid. He was very important in helping Atlético Madrid get promoted from the Segunda División (Spain's second division) in 2002. He played 35 matches that season.
Return to Valladolid and Retirement
After his time at Atlético Madrid, García Calvo returned to Valladolid in the summer of 2006. He helped the team get back into the top league, La Liga, after three years away. He was a regular starter in the next season. He even scored a goal in a 2–2 draw against Deportivo de La Coruña on September 2, 2007. Valladolid managed to stay in the top league that year.
García Calvo had problems with his foot during the 2008–09 season. Because of these ongoing issues, he decided to retire from football at the age of 34. One year later, he became the director of football for Real Valladolid, helping to manage the club.
International Matches
José Antonio García Calvo also played for the Spanish national team. He played in three international matches for his country. His first game was on August 21, 2002, against Hungary. This match was a special game to honor the famous footballer Ferenc Puskás, and it ended in a 1–1 draw.
Before playing for the main national team, he was part of the Spanish under-21 team. This team won the 1998 UEFA European Championship.
