José Gilberto García Ruminot was born on May 22, 1955. He is a Chilean politician and an accountant. He has served in many important government roles in Chile.

On March 19, 2024, he was chosen to be the President of the Senate of Chile. This is a very important leadership position in the Chilean government.

Early Life and Education

José García Ruminot was born in Temuco, a city in Chile. He studied at two different universities. He earned a Bachelor's degree from the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile. Later, he received a Master's degree from the University of La Frontera. His main profession is being an accountant.

Political Career

José García Ruminot has had a long career in Chilean politics. He has been a member of the National Renewal party since 1989.

Serving as Mayor

Before joining the national government, José García Ruminot served as a mayor in several towns.

  • From 1980 to 1982, he was the Mayor of Toltén.
  • Then, from 1984 to 1986, he served as the Mayor of Lautaro.
  • After that, he was the Mayor of Temuco from 1986 to 1989.
