What is Boccia?
Boccia is a precision ball sport. It is similar to bocce or bowls. This sport is specially designed for athletes with disabilities. Players throw, kick, or use a ramp to propel balls. The goal is to get their balls as close as possible to a white target ball, called the jack.
José María's Boccia Classification
José María plays boccia in the BC4 classification. This means he uses his arms and hands to throw the ball. Athletes in this class have severe physical disabilities. However, they do not need assistance to throw the ball. José María is a member of the C.D. Hercesa club.
Competing at the National Level

Early National Competitions

José María Dueso competed at the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London. This is one of the biggest sports events for athletes with disabilities. In the individual BC4 event, he had a strong start. He won his qualification round with a score of 9-0. However, in the round of eight, he lost 4-6.
European Championships
In June 2013, José María was part of Spain's team for the European Championships. This competition was held in Guimaraes, Portugal. By October 2013, he was ranked as Spain's best competitor in his BC4 classification.
