José María Soler García was a Spanish expert who loved history and old things. He was an archaeologist, which means he studied ancient cultures by digging up old objects. He was also a historian, a researcher, and a folklorist, someone who studies old traditions and stories.
He spent most of his life studying his hometown, Villena, and the areas around it. He wanted to learn everything about its past.
In 1957, he started the Villena Archaeological Museum. He filled it with many old items he had found since the 1920s. In 1963, he made two very important discoveries. He found the Treasure of the Cabezo Redondo in March. Later, in December, he found the amazing Treasure of Villena.
Because of these big finds, the museum's name was officially changed. It became the Archaeological Museum "José María Soler". After he passed away, the José María Soler Foundation was created. This foundation gives out research awards every year. This helps keep Soler's important work and legacy alive.
