Joseph Pilato (born March 16, 1949 – died March 24, 2019) was an American actor who worked in films and also did voice acting. He was most famous for playing Captain Rhodes in the 1985 movie Day of the Dead.

Early Life and Acting Start
Joseph Pilato was born in Fitchburg in 1949. He came from an Italian-American family. His father was a professional musician who played the trombone in an orchestra.
Joseph went to Catholic school and became an altar boy. This is where he first started to develop his talent for acting.
Joseph Pilato's Acting Career
Becoming Captain Rhodes
In 1984, the famous director George A. Romero was planning a new zombie movie. It was called Day of the Dead. Joseph Pilato had already appeared briefly in Romero's earlier film, Dawn of the Dead, which was his very first movie role.
Pilato was chosen to play Captain Rhodes in Day of the Dead. This role became his most well-known performance. The movie, along with Romero's other zombie films, became a classic.
Voice Acting and Other Roles
After Day of the Dead, Joseph Pilato continued acting. He used the name "Joey Pal" when he voiced the character Vexor in the TV show Big Bad Beetleborgs. He also did English voiceovers for the popular Japanese animated shows Digimon Adventure and Digimon Adventure 02, where he voiced MetalGreymon.
Pilato also had smaller roles in several other movies. These included Wishmaster, the well-known film Pulp Fiction, Digimon: The Movie, and Night of the Living Dead: Origins 3D.
Later Life and Passing
Joseph Pilato passed away peacefully in his sleep on March 24, 2019. He was 70 years old, and his death happened just eight days after his birthday.
