Story of Digimon Adventure 02
The story of Digimon Adventure 02 takes place four years after the first Digimon Adventure series. The Digital World is in trouble. A new villain, the Digimon Emperor, is trying to take over. He uses special Dark Rings to control Digimon. He also builds Control Spires that stop Digimon from evolving.
To fight him, three new kids are chosen to be DigiDestined. Their names are Davis, Yolei, and Cody. They each get a new Digimon partner. The original DigiDestined, T.K. and Kari, also join them. All five kids have a new device called a D-3. This D-3 lets them travel to the Digital World through any computer. They also get D-Terminals with special Digi-Eggs. These eggs allow their Digimon to use "Armor Digivolution." This special evolution helps them fight even when Control Spires are active.
The Digimon Emperor is actually a smart boy named Ken Ichijoji. With help from Ken's Digimon partner, Wormmon, the DigiDestined defeat Ken. After this, Ken changes his ways and joins the team.
As the DigiDestined help rebuild the Digital World, Davis, Yolei, and Cody learn how to use normal Digivolution. They then face new enemies: Arukenimon and Mummymon. These villains bring back the Control Spires and create new Digimon. When these new Digimon are too strong, the DigiDestined learn "DNA Digivolution." This is when two Digimon merge to become one much stronger Digimon.
Arukenimon creates a powerful Digimon named BlackWarGreymon. He tries to destroy special Destiny Stones. These stones are important for the Digital World. After BlackWarGreymon leaves, a powerful Digimon named Azulongmon appears. He warns the kids about a bigger threat behind Arukenimon and Mummymon.
Around Christmas, Control Spires appear in the human world, bringing Digimon with them. The DigiDestined travel around the world to destroy them. They get help from other DigiDestined from different countries. Meanwhile, Arukenimon and Mummymon kidnap children for a man named Yukio Oikawa. Oikawa wants to enter the Digital World.
When the DigiDestined return to Japan, they fight a group called the Daemon Corps. Oikawa uses a "Dark Spore" from Ken to put into the kidnapped children. After trapping Daemon, BlackWarGreymon returns. He sacrifices himself to seal a portal to the Digital World. This stops Oikawa and the children from going there.
The DigiDestined, Oikawa, and the kids are then taken to a Dream World. They learn that Oikawa was being controlled by a powerful Digimon named Myotismon. Myotismon then transforms into an even stronger form, MaloMyotismon. With help from DigiDestined all over the world, they defeat MaloMyotismon. Oikawa sacrifices himself to help rebuild the Digital World.
Twenty-five years later, humans and Digimon live together peacefully.

Films
Two short films related to Digimon Adventure 02 were shown in Japanese movie theaters.
Digimon Hurricane Landing!! / Transcendent Evolution!! The Golden Digimentals
This two-part film was released on July 8, 2000. It was shown as part of a special animation event. In this movie, the older DigiDestined from the first series are kidnapped by a Digimon named Wendigomon. The younger DigiDestined team up with an American DigiDestined named Willis and his partner, Terriermon. They investigate the disappearances and learn about Willis's past with Wendigomon. The film's ending song was "Stand By Me ~Hitonatsu no Bōken~" by AiM.
This film was later released in North America on October 6, 2000. It was included as the third part of Digimon: The Movie. This movie combined parts of three different Japanese Digimon films. The Digimon Adventure 02 film was changed a lot for this release. For example, the part where the older DigiDestined were kidnapped was removed. Willis's backstory was also changed to connect him to another Digimon villain, Diaboromon.
