Starting in the NRL

Josh Kerr first played for the Indigenous All Stars team in 2019. This special team celebrates Indigenous players in rugby league.

On 21 March 2019, Josh made his official debut in the National Rugby League (NRL). He played for the St. George Illawarra Dragons against the South Sydney Rabbitohs.

Key Seasons with the Dragons

In 2020, Josh had a strong season, playing in all twenty games for St. George Illawarra and scoring two tries. His good performance led to him being chosen for the Queensland squad for the 2020 State of Origin series. This is a big annual competition between teams from Queensland and New South Wales. Although he didn't play in a game, he was the 18th man for one match. Queensland won the series that year.

During the 2021 NRL season, Josh played 19 games for the Dragons and scored two tries. The team finished 11th and did not make the finals. In July, Josh faced a penalty for breaking team rules.

In the 2022 NRL season, Josh played seven games for St. George Illawarra. The team finished 10th and missed the finals for the fourth year in a row.

Moving to the Dolphins

In April 2023, Josh signed a contract to join the Dolphins club for the 2024 and 2025 seasons. He continued to play for St. George Illawarra for a short time. However, on 18 June, he was allowed to leave the Dragons early to join the Dolphins right away.

Recent Achievements

In round 7 of the 2025 NRL season, Josh played his 100th NRL game. He even scored a try in a big 42–22 win against the Melbourne Storm.

In July 2025, Josh was named as the 19th man for Queensland in the 2025 State of Origin series. He later faced a penalty for comments he made after a game.
