Joshua Benoliel started his photography career at a sports magazine called Tiro e Sport. But he spent most of his working life at a big Portuguese newspaper, O Século. He also worked for its special magazine, Ilustração Portuguesa.

He was also a reporter for newspapers and magazines in other countries. He sent his photos to the Spanish newspaper ABC and the French magazine L'Illustration.
