Joyce's Musical Journey
Starting in Detroit
Joyce Vincent Wilson began her singing career in Detroit. She sang background vocals for many songs. These songs were recorded by famous labels like Motown. During this time, she met another singer named Telma Hopkins. They both sang background vocals for other record companies too.
Joining Tony Orlando and Dawn
A singer named Tony Orlando released two popular songs. These songs were "Candida" and "Knock Three Times". He used the name Dawn for these songs. When the songs became hits, Tony needed a group to sing and tour with him. Joyce Wilson and Telma Hopkins joined him. They became the group Tony Orlando and Dawn.
The group became very successful. They even had their own TV show. It was called Tony Orlando and Dawn. Joyce sang on many hit songs. Some of these hits include "He Don't Love You (Like I Love You)" and "Tie a Yellow Ribbon Round the Ole Oak Tree".
Later Singing Career
After Tony Orlando and Dawn, Joyce continued her music career. She was thought of as a possible new member for The Supremes. This was after Mary Wilson left the group. But the record company decided the group should not continue without an original member. So, The Supremes stopped performing in 1977.
Joyce sang background vocals on an album in 1979. This album was called Partners. It featured singers Scherrie Payne and Susaye Greene.
Joyce is good friends with Scherrie Payne. She has often sung background vocals for Scherrie's solo shows. In 2006, Joyce and her sister Pamela Vincent sang together. They were background vocalists for a special concert. This concert celebrated 20 years of the Former Ladies of the Supremes.
In 2009, Joyce joined the Former Ladies of the Supremes group. She replaced another singer named Freddi Poole. Joyce performed with the group for the first time on October 3, 2009.
In 2024, Joyce Wilson and Telma Hopkins joined Tony Orlando on stage again. This was for his very last show before he retired from touring.
