Susaye Greene (born September 13, 1948) is an American singer and songwriter. She is famous for being the last official member of the legendary Motown girl group The Supremes. She joined the group in its final year, from 1976 to 1977.
Susaye is also a very successful songwriter. She has written hit songs for famous artists like Michael Jackson and Deniece Williams.

About Susaye Greene
Early Life and Start in Music
Susaye Greene was born in Houston, Texas. She started her professional music career when she was just 12 years old. As a teenager, she moved to New York City. There, she went to special schools for performing arts.
Before joining The Supremes, Susaye sang with other big names. She was a singer with Ray Charles' group, The Raelettes. She also sang with Stevie Wonder's group, Wonderlove. In 1973, she was the main singer on a popular song called "Until It's Time for You to Go" by the group New Birth. In 1975, she helped write "Free", which became a huge hit for Deniece Williams.
Joining The Supremes
Susaye Greene became a member of The Supremes in February 1976. She joined Mary Wilson and Scherrie Payne. Susaye quickly became a favorite with the group's fans.
She sang on their last two albums, High Energy and Mary, Scherrie & Susaye. In live shows, Susaye often sang "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother." This song always got a standing ovation from the audience. The Supremes performed their last concert on June 12, 1977, in London, and then the group stopped performing together.
After The Supremes and Solo Work
Two years after The Supremes disbanded, Susaye recorded an album with Scherrie Payne. It was called Partners. She also hosted her own TV show called Hollywood Hot.
One of her most famous songs is "I Can't Help It." She wrote this song with Stevie Wonder for Michael Jackson's huge album, Off the Wall.
In 1984, Susaye moved to London, England. She continued to sing and write music. She released two solo songs, "Stop, I Need You Now" and her own version of "Free." She also sang a duet called "It's Impossible" with the famous singer Billy Eckstine.
In 2014, Susaye and Scherrie Payne performed a concert together. It was based on their "Partners" album. In 2017, Susaye joined the group Former Ladies of the Supremes. However, in 2024, she left the group to focus on her own projects.

Around the year 2000, Susaye moved back to the United States. In 2002, she released her first solo album, No Fear Here. She wrote most of the songs on this album herself. Her second solo album, Brave New Shoes, came out in 2005.

Susaye Greene Online
