Juan Antonio Corbalán Alfocea was born on August 3, 1954. He is a famous Spanish retired professional basketball player. Standing about 6 feet tall, Corbalán was known as one of the best point guards in Europe during the 1980s. He played for his home country, Spain, in three Summer Olympic Games. These were in 1972, 1980, and 1984.
In 1991, he was named one of FIBA's 50 Greatest Players. He was also chosen a record 7 times for the FIBA All-Star Games. In 2008, he was recognized as one of the 50 Greatest EuroLeague Contributors. This means he was very important to European basketball.

Playing for Clubs: Real Madrid
Corbalán spent most of his career playing for Real Madrid. This is a top team in the Spanish League. He played with Real Madrid from 1971 to 1988.
Winning Championships
With Real Madrid, he won many championships. He helped his team win the Spanish League 12 times. Nine of these wins were in the old LEB Primera División. These were in 1972, 1973, 1974, 1975, 1976, 1977, 1979, 1980, and 1982. He also won three titles in the newer Liga ACB in 1984, 1985, and 1986.
He also won 7 Spanish Cups. Corbalán won 3 FIBA European Champions Cups. These are very important European club basketball titles. He also won one FIBA European Cup Winners' Cup (now called the FIBA Saporta Cup). He added a FIBA Korać Cup and 4 FIBA Intercontinental Cups to his list of achievements.
Playing for Spain: National Team
Corbalán was a star player for the Spanish national basketball team.
EuroBasket MVP
In 1983, he was named the Most Valuable Player of the EuroBasket 1983 tournament. He led Spain to the final game. Even though Spain lost to Italy, his performance was outstanding.
Olympic Medal
He also won a silver medal with the Spanish national team. This was at the 1984 Los Angeles Summer Olympic Games. This was a huge achievement for him and for Spain.
